Samuel G. Candler

The Very Reverend Samuel Glenn Candler (Sam Candler) became Dean of the Cathedral of St. Philip in October 1998, and loves the lively community and diversity of parish life. He was raised on a farm in Coweta County, Georgia, is an amateur jazz pianist, and enjoys the outdoors and writing poetry. Dean Candler has been an Adjunct Professor in the Anglican Studies Program at Candler School of Theology, Emory University, and is known for his optimistic and progressive vision of traditional Christian church life. He has served on a variety of boards and organizations, and is presently a member of the Atlanta Rotary Club. With degrees from Occidental College and Yale University Divinity School, Dean Candler recently received an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Sewanee, The University of the South. Sam Candler is joined in his life and ministry with Boog, his wife, and their three married children, and seven grandchildren.
